To help support the fast growing energy and renewables market, Alicat Workboats was established in 2009 as a leading provider of aluminium vessels and repair specialist.
Alicat Workboats Limited is the name of the brand new aluminium workboat company that was launched in 2009 to support the fast growing marine renewable energy market. Alicat is a sister company of Richards Dry Dock and Engineering (RDDE), and a member of the Gardline Group.
The designs come in kit form from Global Marine Design (GMD) based in Perth, Australia. GMD was carefully chosen following a long process of market research. Gardline already has expertise in boatbuilding, so it was looking for a complementary hull designer. GMD has about 75 designs, with some 200 vessels already built from them, so they have been proven and tested.
GMD and Gardline have signed up an exclusive UK, America, West Africa and European agency agreement.
Alicat is also looking to establish, in conjunction with the vessel builders, a facility for repair and maintenance at Great Yarmouth. It is strategically placed to serve the many windfarm projects nearby. RDDE and Alicat share a seven acre site, already with on site skilled trades and mobile harbour cranes along with a team of electricians and electronics engineers to cover all the servicing requirements of the vessels.
The company has also purchased a further two acre site on the north side of the Great Yarmouth river that has the potential of becoming a superb windfarm support base. This has some 100m of quayside with refuelling capabilities.
